Favorite So Far

I TOLD you I was going to make more of these! Thanks again to the lovely Jessica over at Happy Together for posting this tutorial. I have her link over in my sidebar, so you can go visit anytime you'd like.

I was going through my pajama drawer, attempting to pack for our trip out to Nashville, when I ran across this old shirt of mine. I used to wear it out, then it was demoted to a pajama shirt, but I don't remember the last time I actually put it on. When I saw it, I knew that it would make a perfect dress for Lucy!

This project took about 2 hours and NO $$$. I made the ruffle out of another old t-shirt of mine that I haven't worn in over a year.

I love how summery this dress is... it's too bad the summer is almost over!

I already want to make another one (I need help people!). I could make little tank tops too!

Another Onesie

I finally used a tiny bit of the fabric I bought in Colorado. I have to decide what other fun project to use it in.
This was one of those rare moments when Lucy did not want to cooperate with our photo shoot. This was the happiest photo of the bunch, but if you look closely you can see her eyes glistening with future tears.
... AND! I was just notified by Grandma Pauly that if you click on the photo (to make it larger) you can see little Lucy's two bottom teeth coming in!

A Dress For Free!

I was SO excited when I ran across this tutorial about how to make a baby dress using an adult-size t-shirt. I just love the idea of recycling an old piece of clothing to make something new and beautiful.

So, I found our bag of clothes that we were planning to donate, and I set aside some potential candidates. I found a plain brown t-shirt of Dave's that I knew would work perfectly. I grabbed a dress out of Lucy's closet and used it as a template. I had to make a few alterations, but I LOVE how it turned out (please excuse the wrinkles!)

The ruffles just kill me.

I plan to make many more of these in the future.

Onesie for Lucy

I have had SO much fun sewing things for baby Lucy recently. This was such a fun project because it only took about 20 minutes and voila! A new onesie for Lucy :).

Headband

I was inspired to use one of Dave's old t-shirts to make a cute headband for Lucy. Here's a breakdown of what I did:
1. I measured Lucy's head with elastic to see how big I should make it.
2. I cut off the very bottom strip of the shirt and threaded the elastic through the already-made casing.
3. I sewed the headband closed, creating a circle.
4. I followed this tutorial to make the flower.
5. I threw the flower into the washing machine with a load of laundry, and then I dried it. It gave it a lot more shape (I can't wait to see what happens when I use regular cotton fabric instead of cotton jersey).
6. I sewed the flower onto the headband!

Happy headband-making!

Heartbreaker

This is probably the most pitiful photo I've ever seen. She's beautiful even when she cries.

Bathrobe

Lucy's Grandma Pauly has been working on this bathrobe for her for a while. She just completed it. I love it!

The monogram is one of my favorite parts.

It's a little big right now, but it should fit her just in time for fall.

Nursing Cover

Here's another project I completed a few weeks ago. I was just going to leave it plain, but the polka dots just reminded me too much of a circus tent. I had one strip of fabric left over from the canvas-covering project, and it was just enough to do a cute applique! So fun.

You're Welcome

I just found a new favorite blog called Lil Blue Boo. It is totally right up my alley. She has free tutorials on how to make stuff like this:
And this:

And she sells patterns to make dresses like this out of adult-sized t-shirts:
I think I'm going to buy the pattern one of these days.

Anyhow, there's always a link to Lil Blue Boo on the right side of my home page, so feel free to visit as often as you'd like... I do! She's full of inspirational ideas for the crafty mind. You can thank me later :)

Little Orange Shirt

We just got back from California last night, and after putting Lucy to bed, the first thing I did was sew! I've missed sewing so very much this last week and I am excited to be back home so that I can be crafty again.

In the past, when Lucy wore this orange and white striped shirt (below), people didn't know if she was a girl or boy. I recently had the revelation that I could sew on an applique and do my best to throw in a little feminine touch. This project took about 10 minutes and turned out to be pretty cute.

My model was VERY squirmy, so this is the best photo I could manage (runny nose and all!).

Songwriting

We've spent much of our time songwiting lately. Most of the time we'll record song ideas on Dave's beloved iPhone. More often than not Lucy puts in her two cents. Here's a sample of what most of our voice memos sound like:)

Headband

A few weeks ago I saw very pretty headbands like this one at Anthropologie

I decided that I didn't want to spend $28 on it, so I made my own. I bought a pack of headbands at Target for a couple bucks, then found some flowers from Michael's craft store. I used my glue gun to attach the flowers, and voila! Not quite as cute, but pretty close.

Weirdness

I came across this totally disturbing website a few days ago and I am moderately obsessed. It's just so weird!

So.. what do you think? Do Lucy and I look alike in our awful haircuts?

It was brought to my attention that Dave was left out of my original post.. so I just added these :)

Business up front, party in the back!

Naartjie

The Heller family went shopping at the outlets yesterday and we found so many wonderful things! The highlight of the trip (for me) was shopping at Naartjie. They had THE cutest children's clothes. I had never been there before and I had the hardest time trying to decide what to buy... there were so many funky lovely choices ON SALE!

I decided to be practical and buy two pairs of pants. I figured that Lucy could wear them with a bunch of different pieces that she already has in her tiny wardrobe. The little stripes are SO cute, PLUS they're size 6-12 months and they're stretchy. I'm hoping to get many months of wear out of these little beauties.

Waterpark

Lucy took her first trip to a water park a couple days ago. She came with Grandma Pauly and me on the lazy river (sorry, no photos of that :). At first she was very unsure about the whole thing, then by the end, she cried when we got out!

Here she is before we tested the waters.

I wasn't planning to get my hair wet, but Dave talked me into going down the crazy scary water slide (boy, am I proud of myself).

Lucy was SO tired at the end of the day!

Lucy's Saturday

Our baby girl is growing up right before our very eyes. She's getting more and more inquisitive of the world around her. She's even drinking from a big girl glass (with Grandma's help).

Here she is saying hello to Dave's parent's dog, Sammie.

She had fun playing with a napkin ring at dinner time.

Here's her modeling shot (not really).
