A Promise is a Promise

True to my word, I am posting some new material today (hooray!). I have been looking for a new rug for our living room for over a year, but I had a couple of criteria. 1. It had to be approximately 9x12 2. It had to be less than $500 and 3. I had to love it. This is why it took a whole year to find this rug!

I liked the rug we had in our living room, but I didn't like the tan on tan on tan color scheme of the room, and I didn't like the large orange stain that we had to keep covered by a piece of furniture.

Here's my before photo. It's pretty old (before our yellow love seat), and pretty messy, but it's the only one I could find of our old rug.
And here's the pretty rug we found (and my husband looking quite comfortable watching Myth Busters)!
We bought it from a store here in town called Furniture Affair. It's a model home furniture outlet, and we LOVE shopping there. The rug is from Pottery Barn, and they sold it to us (in perfect condition) for $330. I couldn't believe it! It was a major score.
It's not as modern as I was picturing, but my more traditional husband loves it, so I didn't even have to talk him into it. And I love it too :). The blue is so soothing.

On a side note, I bought some new flowers at Hobby Lobby to create more of a spring arrangement for the mantel, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to take them back. The modernist in me is rebelling. I'm going to have to find something more funky.

  2. Brightens up your space beautifully! Possibly blue or yellow flowers in a sort of Dr. Suessian look?

  3. You need some long stemmed pom pommy flowers for your mantel. You know what I'm talking about? Something with more shape and a simple stem.
    Pom-poms. Pom Pommies...

  6. I would say keep the hydrangeas and maybe get something tall and funky sticking out above them to add some height. : )

  7. Love the new rug! The before & after photos show the incredibly beautiful change that room has undergone, very nice!

I'm thinking, if you want more modern, probably a more thin vase, something with stems and a pop of a bloom at top, to balance against the pic? Maybe? Just my little ole humble opinion.

  8. I know what would look great on your mantle! Modern looking, and they would match your awesome couch perfectly --- a few dried stems of craspedia/billy buttons!

I can see the cuteness in your room already. :) I love billy buttons.

  12. OH HOW FUN! I had no idea you had a blog! Love the rug... something like that would really work great in my home, too, but for totally different reason. I am striving for "beach cottage calm" with emPHAsis on CALM. (yes, I know I put the emPHAAAAsis on the wrong sylAAAble)

  15. ANd.. I think you're right everyone.. I need some billybutton/pom pom sort of things. I have some in my bedroom, but they're too small to hold up to that large vase. I'll have to keep my eye out for some cute big ones.. I'm thinking yellow :).

The flowers look victorian with the cascading greenery...I can see how you would want more modern.
I love the flowers that have a fuzzy ball on top...like the flower in Horton hears a who LOL
    They are so whimsical

  18. I love the rug! That shade of blue goes beautifully with the love seat. I agree about the flowers, though I can't think of any that come to mind as great replacements. I'm sure you'll find something--you're great at this stuff! :)

  20. Hey JJ! Tell it Again won't stop playing on the radio, and after singing it along with you about fifty times, I decided to look you up! And I'm pretty excited. You blog. :D I love your rug. You can't do too much better than blue and flowers, can you? :)

  22. I love that you painted the dark wood on the patio doors, too. It's just the motivation I needed to paint my cheap pseudo-wood molding. Out comes the glossy white! I love your style, JJ!
