Sewing Again

I am SO glad to be back home in Phoenix.. it means time to SEW and time to BLOG!!!! Today Pauly (Dave's mom) came over and we made lavender-filled sachets. They turned out so cute! Dave already put the one I made (left) in our car to mask the smell of the Lucy's liquid vitamins that we spilled on our long car ride from Denver to Phoenix. I hope it works!

I also made a ton of progress on the changing pad for Lucy. The photo below shows her current pad being used as my template for the new one. Don't worry... I'll post more photos tomorrow.

I used that oil cloth I bought in Denver and my sewing machine hated every second of it. I bent one needle, changed it, and bent then broke another one. I have no needles left... looks like I'll be making another trip to Joanne sometime soon. Actually, I'm hoping to upgrade my $125 machine for something a little more serious. Perhaps a machine that can make a buttonhole without also creating a hundred knots in the fabric. Does anyone have any recommendations?

  2. I use light weight paper to sew with. I put it under things that I want to add a button hole to or if it is delicate fabric. (it keeps the fabric from getting eatin by the machine). Also , about breaking needles. It sounds like you need to get a heavier gauge needle for that particular fabric. (on the needle cases themselves they usually tell what fabric they work well with).

Also, I think I recognize the fabric from one of the satchels. Was it a card holder from Anthropologie? I have one just like that.
