I had this bright idea to buy a whole bunch of cardboard letters to put up above the sink. I wanted them to say "eat, wash, repeat." Wouldn't that have been cute and clever? I thought it would at least be better than the Van Gogh print that we had up there (which I like, but is a little boring).
Unfortunately, when I got all the letters home, they were way bigger than I anticipated. So, after I painted them with black chalkboard paint, I decided to only hang the word "wash."
But it still didn't look quite right. It was way too stark, and felt a bit out of place. So THEN I thought that it would be cute and fun and spring-y to glue some floral fabric to the letters, and look! I love it!
I love how the fabric ties in with the mirror color (don't mind Dave... he just happened to be in my shot :).
And here's a close-up only because I really love this fun fabric and I want you to get a good look at it.
These cardboard letters are $3 apeice at Joanne, so go get creative!
Great, simple and cute! Thanks for sharing this. I'm trying to think of where I could use some letter like this now.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute idea!!! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThese would be great in a child's room.. you could spell out their name, or you can put them in a bedroom and spell peace, or rest. Or put "wash" in the laundry room." I just love letters :)
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! You make it sound so easy. :)
ReplyDeleteYou need a Cricut. Then you could cut all kinds of letters yourself!
ReplyDeleteLOVE IT!!! very pretty. i like your original idea too. too bad there wasn't enough room for all 3 words! looks great as is though.
ReplyDeleteAwww! They are soo cute!!! You should sell these! lol!
ReplyDeleteVery creative!
I LOVE THAT! Totally stealing that idea. Maybe I'll do "Clean" instead to not make it yours exactly :) Love your style JJ.
ReplyDeleteLove your WASH letters...the fabric is very pretty!
ReplyDeleteThis is so creative. Very cute.
ReplyDeleteyou are so creative! I love it! You could always buy smaller letters for the "eat & repeat" and hang them slanted to the sides or something. But I love it like this too!!!
ReplyDeleteLove this! I did this in my dorm room a couple of years ago with my name but painted the letters different colors to match my comforter. Never thought about fabric!
ReplyDeleteSOOOO clever! What a great inexpensive way to bring color into a room :) thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeletesuper cute! i love it :)
ReplyDeleteI love the fabric you used on the letters. What a great idea.
ReplyDeleteThe fabric is gorgeous! The letters look great! Maybe you could still use the "EAT" ones in the dining room? :)
ReplyDeletecurious how you "stuck" the letters on the wall? just basic fun-tack? i have the word eat (really creative i know) in my kitchen and i used fun-tak...but i'm always wondering it there would be a better way...! :) thanks
ReplyDeletewhoops sorry to the person before me who recommended "eat" for kitchen... goodness me!
ReplyDeletefor the record, i like my "eat" sign in my kitchen. sigh.
LOVE this idea!!
ReplyDeleteyep. I used the sticky putty stuff that you're supposed to use in a dorm room :). It actually brought back a lot of memories...
ReplyDeleteIf you used velcro to stick the fabric on, you could change it out with the seasons and decor. :)
ReplyDeleteSuper cute! I would possibly see about spraying something over it to make it more "water resistant", seeing how it is made up of cardboard and fabric. I just know how wet my sink area can get sometimes and it would be a bummer to have put work into something so beautiful just to have it ruined...
ReplyDeleteYou're so crafty!! I also love letters and words!
ReplyDeleteI love it! What a creative & great idea!!!
ReplyDeleteJJ Your letters are so cute! Love the fabric you chose! Crafting is so relaxing, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteOn a different note, I wish I could come out for the Malone Univ (Canton) show next week but it is an hour away from here so it would be a late night for my family and me on a school night. Bummer. Come back again sometime! Anne

That is a really great idea! My husband and I are looking at houses to buy so this would be a wonderful thing do when we get a new house. And I love crafting! Did you just glue the fabric on? I know they have wooden letters and I bet with those you could staple the fabric to the back with a staple gun or something. Anyways thanks for the idea and I love your creativeness!
ReplyDeletedef borrowing it for my laundry room. and other words for other rooms!!
ReplyDeleteaww it is so cute, NOT boring at all... I love it..as a mother of six my sink pretty much is just wash all day long anyway...
ReplyDeleteVery cute! The fabric is the perfect touch!
ReplyDelete"Right On am always looking for fun things to do with my grandchildren, this summer we will make Name tags for their bedroom doors
ReplyDeleteThanks A lot

What a cute idea! Thanks for sharing..I love, love your mirror!! Where did you find it?! :)
ReplyDeleteso pretty! =]
ReplyDeleteI adore this - and the comment above about the velcro and changing it out, thanks for sharing this crafty idea. Hmmm where do I need cute verbiage to brighten up a room...now if I could only muster-up enough strength to ONLY buy letters @ Joanne's.
ReplyDeleteI also like how the colors kind of coordinate with the mirror with-out being "matchy".

I'm just wondering where you got your fabric? It's super cute and wanted to know where you got it. I love the idea of letters too. Seriously fun and cute :)

ReplyDeleteIt has been I don't even know how many years! It's Stephanie(Klepinger) Lewis. I found your blog through my sister Stacie. My husband and I live in KY, not to far from you now. I would love to catch up and see how things are in life with you. My husband is a baseball coach at Campbellsville University and for the moment I am a Resident Director in one of the dorms, (until the end of the semester). Hope to talk to you soon!! God bless~ spadiva99@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteYes, if you have time to share where you got the fabric, that would be great! I love it, and think it might just be the new kitchen curtain fabric!
ReplyDeleteGreat job with your house. I love everything!
I love the pretty fabric! Thanks for showing it to us up close. :) I would love to know what glue and tool you use to apply the fabric so smoothly to the cardboard. Any tips? Thanks!

Hi there I have discovered blogging through you and I love how balanced your home is you do a great job at adding just enough color but keeping it simple as well. Your music is amazing God is using you mighty ways.
ReplyDeleteI have been wanting to get mismatched vintage letters to say "YUM" for the kitchen, but find they are too pricey. I might try this! LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteI love how creative you are!!! Have you read any books or taken any classes that have helped or have you just learned by trying things on your own?
ReplyDeleteYour music is my favorite, I play it on repeate constantly. Especially Painted Red. And When I'm With You. And Love Me.
Hope means holding on to You. And grace means You're holding me too. LOVE it :)
Love this! Definitely going to be a project on my to-do list for my new baby's nursery :)
ReplyDeleteWould it be evil of me to point you in the direction of more words? www.uppercaseliving.com. LOVE IT...I have words all over my dining room wall. faith, family, love, gentleness, kindness, truth, etc. all kinds of colors, fonts, and dimensions.
ReplyDeleteI saw these there a few weeks ago! My fiance and I are planning on using them at our wedding this June. So cute! I love it!
ReplyDeleteThese are adorable! I am definitely going to think of a lovely word that I would enjoy hanging on my wall and decorate some letters of my own!
ReplyDeleteI love this letter idea. It is SOO cute! We are in the process of remodeling our tiny 700 sq ft home and the sheetrock with mud on it makes me want to be creative and cover up the wall... patience is not my forte when it comes to the remodel.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I have recently started listening to your music and LOVE it...it blesses my life!
What a fabulous idea! I am moving into my first "real" apartment this summer, and am totally stealing this. JJ, about how much fabric did you need per letter? I may have to order supplies online (there is a severe lack of craft stores in Gettysburg...), and I want to make sure I order enough. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI have been searching for fabric just like this! Can you tell me where you got it or who the designer is?
ReplyDeleteLOVE the color on your kitchen walls. I've been looking for a gray like that. What is the name?
ReplyDeleteJJ, didn't you do a post about this red mirror one time? I thought I remember you telling us what the paint color is but I don't see it here....
ReplyDeleteI must know what this fabric is...want to make these for my kids bathroom!!!??? Thanks in advance!
