Problems

I was making so much progress on my dress... I had the sleeves done and part of the collar sewn in. Alas, when I tried it on, those little black diamond shaped flowers with the white centers were in a VERY unfortunate place.

The irony is that I actually re-cut the front piece at the beginning of this whole process to avoid that very thing from happening. It was so hard to gauge where the designs would actually end up because of the whole collar addition. Anyhow, I definitely guessed wrong, and now I'm at a standstill, trying to figure out what to do next. The only idea I can come up with is to add some appliques to disguise those two menacing flowers. Here are some ideas:
Idea #1

Idea #2 (with leaves added)

Idea #3 (with only leaves)

Any other suggestions oh brilliant friends of mine?

I love just the leaves, I would use a lime green thread to applique for an added bit of color. Just my thoughts...but I LOVE that fabric!!!

i think just the leaves too. i think anything more might draw just as much attention to the "area." :)
the only other idea i can think of is cutting out that whole section and do a new "neckline" that has a seam just below your chest (like an empire waist). that way you wouldn't have to re-cut the entire front...just the top section....maybe?? good luck!

It'll be interesting to see what you decide to do with this. I'd be afraid that the appliques may draw even more attention to the area and look like patches over your .... Well, hope some clever folks offer you some good ideas!!

Ok, so I have been meaning to write to you and let you know how much of an inspiration your blog has been to me! I stumbled across it after Sarah found me on facebook and I saw her blog. Anyway, you have inspired me to start my own blog, however that has not come to be just yet... but I HAD to comment on this blog because you had me laughing out loud.. and I wanted to give my input... I feel as though if you put the applique only over those flowers then it would still draw attention to the areas as two separate spots, whereas #2 draws attention to more of a line as opposed to two spots if ya catch my drift :) Anyway there's my two cents... Thanks so much for sharin' your life on this... I will let ya know when I actually get mine started! Talk to you soon!!

I say 1 or 3... OR maybe add a ribbon in a bright color to distract the eye...

You know I'm not much of a fashionista, J, but I think the whole dress pattern is so symmetrical, why not do some sort of treatment on just one side? And I'd kind of go for something with no pattern at all. HOWEVER, if you're up for it, I think Kierstin's idea would also be great.

I used the word "pattern" twice there. I meant no print pattern the second time. :-)

yeah, i don't know what to tell you...i didn't even notice the difference between the 3 pictures. whichever one you choose, though, i'll support your decision 100%
