Living Room

First of all, I wanted to say a big "thank-you" to all of you who posted links to lighting photos on my last post. I think we've settled on doing a criss-cross pattern to make it feel bistro-like.

Now... I was wondering if you all had some input on furniture arrangement in the living room. The glider that's in there right now is just temporary, but we'd like to get something else. It would be nice to get a love seat, but I'm not sure how it would fit. A chair might leave us with not enough seating. I brilliant friend of mine suggested finding a chair and a half. Keep in mind that we can adjust the angle of the rug as well. Thoughts?

P.S. New carpet is being installed RIGHT NOW!

Don't know much about furniture placement, but I know that I LOVE your fireplace!!!!

i have the same couch from ikea (at least it looks identical!) and i have the matching love-seat. i've found that the 2 together are perfect for having enough seating, but they also don't take up too much room (i live in an apartment).

I would make that really nice fireplace the focal point, rather than the entertainment center (although I know sometimes it's more practical to do it the other way around). Perhaps move the couch closer to the fireplace end of the area rug, and then I think you'd have plenty of room for a loveseat at the other end without blocking the access through that area.

Have you thought of getting a nice sectional? We recently bought one because we needed extra seating and had difficulty with furniture placement. They have a lot of different styles to choose from.

Lovely! We are big fans of rocking, swivelling tub chairs. I would put two at the fireplace end of the rug. Swivel to the TV when you want, swivel to the fireplace when you want. Even spin in wild circles with Lucy in your lap when you want :).

I think you should get another couch to match the other one you already have...put one of them where the chair is and the other one just leave it where it is.....the little chair thing..you could put where you on the right like where you standing to take the picture....
It looks like you don't have enough furniture for that big space.
hopes this helps. :)

By having the furniture facing the hutch, you are ignoring the two biggest assets of the room- the fireplace an the french doors with an outside view. I would pull back the couch(es) and angle them towards the fireplace so that you can see both outside and the cabinet by simply angling your bodies a little bit rather than having to crick your necks.

Also, I think a love-seat would fit perfectly, it would not be too big AND you could still get a chair (just not a huge recliner.

You should check out ratemyspace.com... people post photos of there rooms and it is great to get a lot of ideas.

My suggestion would actually be to buy a couple of cool stuffed chairs (maybe armless?) that are complimentary in color and/or pattern. put them opposite the couch on either corner at an angle. This creates more seating a conversational feel without blocking the view from your large sofa (wherever you end up placing it). Have fun decorating!!

It took my husband and I forever to decide how to arrange our living room. We're still in the process of finishing the room all together. In fact, we're in search of a rug (they are so hard to pick!) and I wondered if you could post where yours is from...I love it!

Gotta love the fireplace...forgot to look at the mantle...is there one? I would angle the rug at the fireplace and focus there with chair and couch that way. I just like focusing on the natural first. If you were to pull farther back in front of fire, you coulde have a chair on either end of couch, or a large rolling footrest to accommodate more peeps! Truly beautiful taste you have...love love love that mirror have great fun

I am sure it is all organized now. But I agree with several.....don't short change the fireplace. Angle the couch in same direction facing it...and get the love seat! I broke down and got one too...and kept a recliner and sofa in LR about this size.
